Libby Pool's Exclusive Paua Jewellery and Design Store

For unique handmade paua shell jewellery belts, bracelets, earrings, necklaces and clothing

Introducing Paua Jewellery Designer, Libby Pool

Libby Pool has been creating exquisite handmade paua shell jewellery for nearly 20 years. Each piece of jewellery is uniquely crafted using organic paua shell sourced from the clean crisp waters of the South Island of New Zealand.

So what is Paua?

Paua (pronounced ‘pah wah’) is similar to abalone which can be found in the warmer waters around Australia, Asia and America. Abalone is lighter in colour and generally pinkish and more like mother of pearl whereas New Zealand paua (of which there are 3 species) has significant depth of colour and is sometimes referred to as the opal of the sea. Paua shell is one of the few natural organic materials widely regarded as jewellery-quality.

To produce her stunning range, Libby uses sustainable sourced paua shell and designs each piece depending on the shape of the shell’s unique contour. She then assembles the shell with sterling silver and Italian thread, at times adding colourful French ribbon, leather, semi-precious stones and glass beads.

“I feel incredibly lucky that I can share my unique designs with people all over the world” says Libby.

In addition to her online store, you will find Libby at her jewellery stall most Saturdays and Sundays between 10am – 5pm at The Rocks Markets, an open-air market, nestled between Sydney’ picture-perfect harbour and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The markets are situated at Playfair Street, George Street and Jack Mundey Place, The Rocks. So if you are in the area, why not call in and meet Libby and view her beautiful range of handmade paua shell jewellery.
